β₯ HOW TO ENJOY
How to Use and Enjoy Your Passion Fruit
You're about to get a lot of Passion Fruit! Here are some tips to enjoy your box and make the most of every piece. Depending on your recipes and snacking habits, your box can provide fresh Passion Fruit for about 3 weeks.
These sweet and tart flavor bombs sweeten as they wrinkle and can be juiced to elevate cocktails, desserts, and dressings, or scooped right out of the shell for a zingy snack.
Choosing Your Passion Fruit
When you have an influx of Passion Fruit, reserve the smoother fruit for high-acid recipes like salad dressings or fish marinades. The wrinklier the fruit, the better it is for sweet applications. Use your ripe Passion Fruit for a tropical twist in dessert recipes, or in a yogurt parfait. If you'd like to use your Passion Fruit in smoothies or acai bowls at a later date, keep reading for tips on storing your fruit.
Ripening Your Fruit
Fast ripening: Keep the fruit together in the paper box at room temperature. This concentrates the ripening process so you'll have a lot of ripe Passion Fruit all at once. *Check on your fruit daily and remove ripe fruit to avoid spoilage.*
Moderate ripening: Display them in a fruit bowl on the counter with space between each fruit. This spreads out the ripening time so they won't all be ready at once.
Slow ripening: Separate the fruit or store in the fridge to slow down the ripening process significantly.
Planning to Savor Over Time
Fresh ripe fruit: Store in the fridge for up to a couple weeks. For best results, place them in a gallon bag to prevent them from drying out. They can last up to a month this way.
Frozen whole: A favorite trick from friends in Hawaii is to freeze ripe Passion Fruit whole, then cut the top off and scrape out the pulp like granita when ready to enjoy.
Frozen pulp: For long-term storage, scoop out the pulp in 1-cup portions and freeze in freezer bags for later use in recipes.
We hope you enjoy your Passion Fruit Harvest!
